updated 3:50 pm Tuesday, 2/16
PISTONS RECEIVE: TOBIAS HARRIS
MAGIC RECEIVE: BRANDON JENNINGS AND ERSAN ILYASOVA
ANALYSIS: This is a great move for Detroit. They acquire a very talented 23-year old in Harris, who is averaging 13.7PTS, 7REB. To me this feels like a salary dump for Orlando as Harris just signed a big contract extension. The Magic can save more than 17-million if they don’t keep Ilyasova next season.
updated 12:30 pm – Wed. 2/17
HORNETS RECEIVE: COURTNEY LEE
GRIZZLIES RECEIVE: P.J. HAIRSTON, CHRIS ANDERSON, 2-SECOND ROUND PICKS
HEAT RECEIVE: BRIAN ROBERTS
ANALYSIS: This trade is a head scratcher. It is more of salary moves for all the teams involved. The Heat try and stay under the salary-tax and receive Roberts, a backup PG. Lee is the best player in the trade and will help the Hornets especially with Michael Kidd-Gilchrist out for the year.
THE FOLLOWING TRADES ARE UPDATED AT 6PM, THURS. 2/18
HEAT RECEIVE: PROTECTED 2ND ROUND PICK
PELICANS RECEIVE: JARNELL STOKES, $700,000 IN CASH
ANALYSIS: It seems that the Heat are trying to unload salaries in order to stay under the salary tax. Not much else.
JAZZ RECEIVE: SHELVIN MACK
HAWKS RECEIVE: 2ND ROUND PICK
ANALYSIS: Instead of the rumored trades of Jeff Teague and Dennis Schroeder, the Hawks unload their number 3 PG in seldom-used Mack.
BULLS RECEIVE: 2ND ROUND PICK
HAWKS RECEIVE: KIRK HINRICH
ANALYSIS: Look at the trade above….. Teague and/or Schroeder surprisingly stay put. Do not count the Hawks out of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Hinrich provides a veteran presence. The Bulls save a lot of money in this trade
PISTONS RECEIVE: DONATAS MONTEJUNAS AND MARCUS THORNTON
ROCKETS RECEIVE: JOEL ANTHONY, AND 2016 FIRST-ROUND PICK (TOP-8 PROTECTED)
ANALYSIS: This is an even trade for both teams I believe. Montejunas is a young, talented player who is injury prone. Houston receives a first round pick that may end up being a top 15-18 pick in the upcoming draft. The 2016 NBA Draft isn’t very strong so the player Houston selects might be on even par with Montejunas.
THUNDER RECEIVE: RANDY FOYE
NUGGETS RECEIVE: STEVE NOVAK, DJ AUGUSTIN, TWO 2ND ROUND PICKS
ANALYSIS: I like the trade for OKC. Foye is a solid veteran who can play both the PG and SG position and provides solid defense. He can come off the bench and provide offense. While not a blockbuster trade by any means, it definitely helps the Thunders 2nd unit.
CAVALIERS RECEIVE: CHANNING FRYE
TRAILBLAZERS RECEIVE: ANDERSON VAREJAO, FUTURE FIRST ROUND PICK
MAGIC RECEIVE: JARED CUNNINGHAM, 2ND ROUND PICK
ANALYSIS: The Cavs hope Frye can provide defense and perimeter shooting. The Cavs do not care about giving away their 1st round pick. This whole trade scenario for the Cavs is about a potential Final match=up with Golden State. They hope Frye can help space the floor and match-up with Draymond Green. They definitely helped themselves. Will it matter if those 2 teams meet up in the finals? I don’t believe so but you have to try and improve your roster and the Cavs did.
SUNS RECEIVE: KRIS HUMPHRIES, DEJUAN BLAIR, PROTECTED FIRST-ROUND PICK
WIZARDS RECEIVE: MARKIEFF MORRIS
ANALYSIS: It was only a matter of time before Morris left Phoenix. He provides Washington with an inside/outside presence. It may possibly provide a spark to the struggling Wizards team. The key for phoenix. They will get a first round pick and looks like they are in rebuilding mode.
CLIPPERS RECEIVE: JEFF GREEN
GRIZZLIES RECEIVE: LANCE STEPHENSON, FIRST ROUND PICK
ANALYSIS: This is a great trade for LA. I have always considered Green a very talented and underrated player. This move makes the Clippers a threat to make the Western Conference Finals. Will this trade put the Clippers over the top and overthrow Golden State? No. However, it sure makes things more interesting and Green will stay in LA and be a fixture for years to come. A very good trade for the Clippers.
