1.LA CLIPPERS SHOPPING JOSH SMITH
It seems as if Josh Smith’s time is running out with the Clippers. LA has made it known they are willing to trade the 30-year old forward. The question is would anybody be willing to trade anything of value for him? Having signed a one-year deal in July 2015, Smith’s game has gone down considerably. The once explosive athlete has clearly lost a step and has seemed to fall out of favor with Head Coach Doc Rivers.Currently averaging 5.7pts and 4reb a game in limited action, Smith got a lucky break with Blake Griffin out for 2 weeks with a partially torn quad tendon. Paul Pierce will take Griffin’s spot in the starting lineup and it would be risky to trade Smith at this time as it would make the front-court even weaker. When Griffin returns from injury expect the Clippers to fully shop Josh Smith.
2. IS PHOENIX SUNS HEAD COACH JEFF HORNACEK ON THE WAY OUT?
The Suns were supposed to be an improving team with upside entering the 2015-16 season as Jeff Hornacek did a really nice job last season. However, the team has not lived up to expectations and are currently 12-20 and seemingly out of the Western Conference playoff race after only 32 games. Recent in-house fighting with Forward Markieff Morris” hasn’t done Hornacek a favor either. Telling the “Arizona Republic newspaper” that “he’s mad about not playing” has made Morris furious and close to demanding a trade. On Monday, December 28, 2015 the Suns fired 2 assistant coaches, Mike Longabardi and Jerry Sichting. These moves might imply that if things don’t improve quickly that the head coach will be the next to go. Hornacek proved the previous 2 seasons that he can be a quality NBA coach. For him though, it might be in another NBA city.
3. DAVID LEE NOT FITTING IN WITH BOSTON. IS HE ON THE WAY OUT OF BEANTOWN?
The 32-year-old Lee is making $15.5 million this season on an expiring contract, which makes him a very valuable trade chip for an opposing teams salary cap. While he provides scoring punch off the bench as well as veteran leadership to a young and talented Boston roster he clearly is not in the long range plans of the organization. Boston is a year or 2 away from being Eastern Conference title contenders and it would make sense if they can unload Lee for perhaps a draft pick or future assets.
