HILL PLAYING LIKE AN ALL-STAR

A few days before this past June’s NBA Draft, there was a 3 team trade with PG Jeff Teague being the headline player. As Teague went from Atlanta to Indiana, The Utah Jazz ended up giving their first round pick to the Atlanta Hawks, which was used on Taurean Prince. To finalize the deal, the Pacers sent PG George Hill to Utah.

After the first 25 games of the season, this trade looks to heavily favor the Jazz. Hill, in his 9th NBA season, has been outstanding as the Jazz are off to a 15-10 start and are looking like a playoff team. The 6’3″ Hill is playing as well as almost any point guard not named Russell Westbrook and stands a good chance of making his first All-Star appearance.

The 30-year old is averaging 20pts, 3.5reb, and 4.2ast for the surprising Jazz. Hill was a solid backup PG with the Spurs for a few seasons and with the Pacers last season. As he finally got his chance this year to lead a team, he has taken full advantage of the opportunity. Utah has a very solid squad and Hill and SF Gordon Hayward are the leaders.

George Hill is a perfect example of a player who had to wait and be a backup for years before getting a chance to start. He now looks like he will be leading Utah to a playoff berth and he just might make the All-Star game. Not bad for someone who was the afterthought in the 3 team trade.

NOEL FOR MIROTIC TRADE IN THE WORKS?

We have been hearing about a possible trade involving 2 talented and young big-men. Is a possible Nerlens Noel for Nikola Mirotic trade in the works? Everyone knows that Philadelphia has been trying to unload one of their big-men for about a year now, and Noel makes the most sense.

Nerlens Noel

With the outstanding play of Joel Embiid along with Jahlil Okafor on the roster, Noel looks to be the odd-man out. Chicago has been disappointed with Mirotic this season after showing a lot of promise last year.

The question we have with this possible trade scenario is this. Mirotic is a big-man and the 76ers need serious back-court help so they would be trading one big man for another. Noel would really help the Bulls as he would provide an interior presence. Noel has been out the entire year with a knee injury, however, he should be returning to the floor within the next week. Mirotic would just be blocking the development of Embiid, Okafor, and rookie Dario Saric.

And don’t forget about Ben Simmons. The number 1 overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft is out with an injury and odds are that he will miss the year. However, he should be back at full strength and be ready to play. While the 76ers have an abundance of talented front-court players, we really believe Noel should be traded for a guard. To us, the trade would be a wash for both teams.

WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THIS TRADE RUMOR?

ANDREW BOGUT IN DEMAND BY MULTIPLE TEAMS

As the Dallas Mavericks are off to a dreadful with a 5-18 record, they are probably wishing the season was already over. While that won’t be the case for another few months, there is a high probability that they will be shaking up their roster.

One player who would bring back a much needed draft pick would be center Andrew Bogut. The former number 1 pick in the 2005 NBA Draft still has the ability to help a playoff contender. he former Utah Utes star is still considered a solid rebounder, is a good passer, and will provide occasional scoring.

There are many teams who are interested in the 7’0″, 32-year old center. These teams include Boston, Portland, Cleveland, Indiana, San Antonio, and Minnesota. If we were Dallas, the first call we make is to Danny Ainge and Boston. Ainge is a very aggressive general manager and Boston has a chance to make the Eastern Conference Finals this season.

The main reason we call Ainge is because Boston has a plethora of young, talented players as well as draft picks. Dallas is in rebuilding mode and the best way to get better, in our opinion, is though the NBA Draft and by acquiring young talent with the potential to grow.

If Boston is willing to give up a first round pick and/or one of their young players, Dallas should make the trade ASAP. It would be a good trade on both sides. Bogut would spell All-Star center Al Horford, and the Mavericks get younger. It would be a win-win scenario.

WHAT TEAM DO YOU THINK BOGUT GETS TRADED TO?

BROGDON PROVING TO BE A 2ND ROUND STEAL

While watching the Virginia Cavaliers play the last 2 years, one player always stood out to us. This player could do everything on the basketball court and do it well. That player was Malcolm Brogdon. The 2016 ACC Player of the Year was somebody who we believed was worthy of being a first round pick in the 2016 NBA Draft. His slip to the 2nd round (36th pick) was a surprise and the Milwaukee Bucks wasted no time calling his name at the podium. It is turning out to be a very smart decision.

The very mature 24-year old shooting guard has been getting valuable minutes for head coach Jason Kidd, who has seemed to taken a liking to the rookie. The 6’5″ Brogdon is averaging 7.9pts, 2.8ast, and 2.2reb in 21 minutes of playing time per game. His versatility and very good defensive skills has made him a key back-up for the young and talented Bucks.

In what is turning out to be a disappointing draft class in terms of overall performance, the 4-year UVA standout is turning out to be one of the draft’s best players. We believe Brogdon will enjoy a solid 10+ year career, due to his sound overall game. We bet there are a few teams who are regretting on passing up the chance to draft him. He is playing his way onto the NBA All Rookie First Team as of right now. Let’s see if he can keep it up. We believe that he can and will.
