 2016 NBA MOCK DRAFT (LOTTERY)

This is www.inthegymrange.com’s first ever NBA Mock Draft. We will be predicting the lottery selections (top 14 picks) in this article. Even though the NBA Draft is a little more than 4 months away, it is never to early to predict where the college stars of today will be making a living in just a few months. These players lives will be dramatically changing as they are finishing up their respective college seasons and are auditioning for NBA scouts and general managers every time they step on the basketball court.

After each players’ summary of why we think the pick will be made, click on the link right afterwards. A Draft Profile of the player will appear. An in-depth analysis of the player as well as video highlights will be provided so that you can gain knowledge on the individual player. Here is our first edition of the 2016 NBA Mock Draft (Lottery).

#1: PHILADELPHIA 76ERS

BEN SIMMONS

6’10”  240 POUNDS

PF  LSU  FRESHMEN

STATS: 19.5PTS, 12.5AST, 5REB

WHY THE PICK: The easiest pick to make in the entire draft. Simmons is the best talent to enter the NBA Draft since Kevin Durant in 2007, and perhaps LeBron James in 2003. He will team with rookie Center Jahlil Okafor to give the 76ers a future All-Star front-court. Ben Simmons is a special talent. #2: LOS ANGELES LAKERS

BRANDON INGRAM

6’8″  195 POUNDS

SF  DUKE  FRESHMEN

STATS: 17PTS, 6.5REB, 1.7AST

WHY THE PICK: Ingram is the 2nd best player in the Draft and the Lakers will be thrilled with selecting the Duke star. While he needs to add weight, his pure shooting stroke and overall potential gives the Lakers another young, long-term building block for the future. DeAngelo Russell, Julius Randle, and Ingram would be an extremely talented, young trio. #3: BOSTON CELTICS

DRAGAN BENDER

7’0″  215 POUNDS

PF  MACCABI TEL AVIV (ISREAL)  NO CLASS

STATS: 5PTS, 2REB

WHY THE PICK: The Celtics will have 3 picks in the first round and this pick is courtesy from the Brooklyn Nets as part of the past Paul Pierce/Kevin Garnett trade. The Celtics take a chance on the talented but rather unknown 18-year old. He is more of a perimeter player then a low-post player at this stage in his development and Boston will hope they are getting the next Kristaps Porzingis. #4: PHOENIX SUNS

KRIS DUNN

6’3″  220 POUNDS

PG  PROVIDENCE  JUNIOR

STATS: 17.2PTS, 6.9AST, 6.0REB

WHY THE PICK: Dunn is clearly the best point guard in the draft. Phoenix guards Brandon Knight and Eric Bledsoe are talented, although they are very injury prone. The Suns select Dunn and he immediately becomes the best guard on the roster. The super-explosive Dunn is the 3rd best prospect in the draft but because Boston selected Bender, the Suns luck out. He has a chance to be an All-Star caliber type point guard. #5: MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES

JAYLEN BROWN

6’7″  225 POUNDS

SF  CALIFORNIA  FRESHMEN

STATS: 15.8PTS, 5.5REB, 1.9AST

WHY THE PICK:  By adding Brown, the Timberwolves will have a quartet of Brown, Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Zach Levine/Ricky Rubio. That might possibly be the most athletic group in the NBA. The University of Cal Freshmen is the most athletically gifted player in the class with an opportunity to be an All-NBA Defensive performer. Once he improves his jump-shot and ball-handling, watch out. He gives the up and coming Timberwolves another young and talented player. #6: NEW ORLEANS

HENRY ELLENSON

6’10  240 POUNDS

PF  MARQUETTE  FRESHMEN

STATS: 16PTS, 10REB, 1.8AST

WHY THE PICK: Ellenson has been excellent all season for Marquette. The 6’10” PF has the ability to shoot from the perimeter and possesses a lethal turnaround jump-hook. The very athletic 19-year old has the potential to become a really good “stretch-4” in the NBA and will form a nice 1-2 punch with All-Star Anthony Davis. #7: MILWAUKEE BUCKS

JACOB POELTL

7’1″  240 POUNDS

C  UTAH  SOPHOMORE

STATS: 17.3PTS, 8.8REB, 2AST

WHY THE PICK: Poeltl is the best Center in this year’s draft. The 7’1″ sophomore is very athletic and has a nice touch with both hands. Poeltl is very comparable to another Australian Center, Andrew Bogut. There are a lot of similarities in their game. The Bucks select Poeltl and solidify their front-court. #8: DENVER NUGGETS

JAMAL MURRAY

6’4″  204 POUNDS

PG  KENTUCKY  FRESHMEN

STATS: 18.3PTS, 4.9REB, 2.3AST

WHY THE PICK: This pick came down to Murray and Oklahoma’s Buddy Hield. We slot Murray in this position because of his potential to play both guard spots. While neither Murray or Nuggets rookie Emmanuel Mudiay may not be pure point guards, put both in the back-court together and you now have an explosive tandem. Murray has been tremendous for Kentucky and might rise up the board in future mock drafts. #9: SACRAMENTO KINGS

BUDDY HIELD

6’4″  214 POUNDS

SG  OKLAHOMA  SENIOR

STATS: 25.6PTS, 5.6REB, 2.4AST

WHY THE PICK: Ben McLemore, Nik Stauskas, Jimmer Fredette. 3 recent Kings first-round draft picks that have not panned out. The Kings finally get this pick right and select Oklahoma scoring star Buddy Hield. Hield has lit-up scoreboards all season long and finally provides the back-court scoring that the 3 aforementioned players couldn’t do. Hield can score and score in bunches. Click on the following link for the NBA Draft Profile on Buddy Hield. https://inthegymrange.com/2016-nba-draft-prospects-buddy-hield-jan-13-2016

#10: ORLANDO MAGIC

BUDDY HIELD

6’11”  255 POUNDS

C  MARYLAND  FRESHMEN

STATS: 12.9PTS, 5.8REB, 0.3AST

WHY THE PICK: The freshmen big-man started off the season slow, however he has really played excellent the last month of the season. We now consider Stone the 2nd best Center in this year’s NBA Draft who might end up a better player than Jacob Poeltl. He has remade his body to go along with his very good skills. The Magic will have a hard time passing up the potential of the Maryland Freshmen. He is only starting to scratch the surface of his abilities. #11: TORONTO RAPTORS

IVAN RABB

6″10″  220 POUNDS

PF  CALIFORNIA  FRESHMEN

STATS: 12.4PTS, 8.4REB, 1AST

WHY THE PICK: Rabb and his teammate Jaylen Brown have been excellent for the up and coming Cal Bears. The 18-year old Rabb is a work in progress but offers a nice package of skills in his 6’10” body. He needs to gain weight in order to make an immediate contribution at the NBA level. The Raptors are one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and will get either the Knicks/Nuggets pick here from a previous trade. They select Rabb and will have the luxury of easing him into the NBA. Click on the following link for the NBA Draft Profile on Ivan Rabb. https://inthegymrange.com/2016-nba-draft-prospects-ivan-rabb-wednesday-jan-20-2016

#12: WASHINGTON WIZARDS

DEMETRIUS JACKSON

6’1″  195 POUNDS

PG  NOTRE DAME  JUNIOR

STATS: 16.1PTS, 5.1AST, 3.7REB

WHY THE PICK: Jackson has been lights-out for the Fighting Irish all season long and is the 3rd best point guard in this years draft, behind Kris Dunn and Jamal Murray. While only 6’1″, Jackson is lightning-quick with a well-developed body. At the very worse he becomes an excellent back-up to John Wall. I believe in time Jackson will be a solid NBA starter. Click on the following link for the NBA Draft Profile on Demetrius Jackson. https://inthegymrange.com/2016-nba-draft-prospects-demetrius-jacksonpub-wed-210

13: PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS

DOMANTIS SABONIS

6’10”  240 POUNDS

PF  GONZAGA  SOPHOMORE

STATS: 17.4PTS, 11.5REB, 1.8AST

WHY THE PICK: Sabonis is another talented international player that has come out of Gonzaga. He is a very strong and skilled low-post player and is an excellent rebounder. Portland selects him and brings back memories of when his father, Arvydas Sabonis played for the Traiblazers. The eldest Sabonis is widely-known as one of the greatest big-man passers in NBA history. His son will be a good NBA player and fills a need for Portland. Click on the following link for the NBA Draft Profile on Domantas Sabonis. https://inthegymrange.com/2016-nba-draft-prospects-domantas-sabonis-wednesday-feb-10-2016

#14: HOUSTON ROCKETS

STEPHEN ZIMMERMAN

7’0″  240 POUNDS

C  UNLV FRESHMEN

STATS: 10PTS, 9REB, 0.8AST

WHY THE PICK: Zimmerman is a very talented 7-footer with a wide array of skills. He can shoot from the perimeter and also has a few nice low-post moves. With the uncertainty of Dwight Howard and Terrence Jones, Houston goes for insurance and selects a young-big with upside. Click on the following link for the NBA Draft Profile on Stephen Zimmerman.  https://inthegymrange.com/2016-nba-draft-prospects-stephen-zimmerman-wednesday-january-27-2016
