SCOUTING REPORT
Allonzo Trier is a player that we have always liked watching perform. While freshman sensation DeAndre Ayton rightfully garners the majority of the headlines, it is Trier, along with Rawle Alkins who are the heart and soul of the Wildcats. The Oklahoma native thought about entering the 2017 NBA Draft. He ended up withdrawing his name. We feel it was a good decision. Trier made our 2017-18 pre-season All-American team .
The junior was suspended at the start of the 2016-17 season after he tested positive for PED’s. When he returned to the court, he performed like the All-American many thought he would be. He was one of the best players in the country towards the end of the year. He has continued his strong play throughout the first 2 months of this season.
Trier’s best attribute is putting the ball in the basket. He is a natural born scorer. While his shooting stroke is unorthodox, he repeats his stroke consistently. He has shown that he can score from all 3 levels. We have seen a more consistent effort from him on the defensive end. He can guard both back-court spots as he has the lateral quickness and agility to do so. He plays the passing lanes well and gets his share of steals, which leads to fast breaks. Trier is a joy to watch in the open court.
It would benefit the Wildcat star to gain another 10-15 pounds. A question NBA scouts have is how well will his body hold up for an 82-game NBA schedule. Trier will most likely enter the 2018 NBA Draft. In our opinion, he has the ability to become a very solid rotational player. NBA teams are always looking for players who can put the ball in the basket. Allonzo Trier does this better than most shooting guards playing college basketball today. He would be a nice addition to a team picking in the mid to late 20’s of the first round.
SNIPPETS OF ALLONZO TRIER’S 2017 NBA SCOUTING REPORT
“He is one of the main reasons why Arizona won the PAC-12 tournament and are in the Sweet 16. Trier is displaying a much improved jump-shot and has always had the great athletic ability. Another few good games in the NCAA tournament might push his stock up.”
