JEFF TEAGUE ON THE TRADING BLOCK?
With the emergence of Dennis Schroeder, former All-Star Jeff Teague is rumored to be available. Teague is a very good point guard who only makes $8-million dollars a year. The Hawks have fallen in love with Schroeder, who is still on his rookie contract. Teague would help any team that he plays on. The Celtics are rumored to be heavily involved as are the Mavericks. A possible Deron Williams plus a draft pick for Teague might be in play. I believe Atlanta can do better than that. This might be Atlanta’s best and last chance to win the Eastern Conference for a while. They have key players who will become free agents in the off-season and I believe they should keep Teague and try and make a run in the playoffs. Teague is a very good player who the Hawks should not undersell.
2. ARE THE CLIPPERS SERIOUS ABOUT TRADING BLAKE GRIFFIN?
It has been a whirlwind last week with the Los Angeles Clippers and Blake Griffin. On January 23, 2016 Griffin got into an argument with the assistant equipment manager, Matias Testi. A fight in-sued and left Griffin with a broken hand. He will be out of action for a number of weeks. Rumors have flown that this might be the last straw for the ultra-talented Griffin and that he could be traded before the deadline.
The Lakers and Knicks are 2 possible landing spots. Although I believe the Knicks don’t have anything close to offer for a talent like Griffin unless they part with Carmelo Anthony, watch out for the Lakers. They have some intriguing young, cheap pieces in Julius Randle and D’Angelo Russell. Griffin’s time may be up with the Clippers. They aren’t going to win a title in the foreseeable future, and if they can get back some young and talented players, it might set them up well when free agency comes along. Griffin is a great player, however his game and attitude have regressed. It might be better for both the player and organization to part ways.
3. JEFF HORNACEK FIRED BY PHOENIX SUNS
Speculation has become reality. Head Coach was fired by Suns management on Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. The Suns were a pleasant surprise and were thought of an up and coming team. However, injuries to many key players have derailed those plans. Hornacek is a good coach in my opinion, but as the old saying goes “You can’t fire the players, but you can fire the coach”. Hornacek should get plenty of looks for whenever a head coaching job opens up.
