#87 RANKED PLAYER IN COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2016)
STAR RANKING: 4 STARS
WEIGHT: 220 POUNDS
AGE: 18 YEARS OLD
POSITION: POWER FORWARD
HIGH SCHOOL: IMG ACADEMY IN FLORIDA
CHOSE ARIZONA STATE OVER: AUBURN, GEORGIA TECH, AMONG MANY OTHERS
PLAYER SUMMARY: Bobby Hurley is trying to turn around the Arizona State program. The former Duke star and the NCAA all-time assists leader has done a nice job on the recruiting trail. He landed a player who will help out his front-court immediately.
Romello White was originally a Georgia Tech commit, however de-committed when they made a head coaching change. His loss is the Sun Devil’s gain. White has very good athleticism for a PF. We were surprised with how well he got up and down the floor for a big-man. He is very good in the transition game, where he can use his athleticism and speed to beat opposing defenders down the court.
While evaluating the Sun Devil commit, he showed the capability of scoring down on the block as he sports a nice little jump-hook. He has shown that his range expands to around 15 feet, although his shot needs to become more consistent. He scores a lot of his points at the high school level on dunks and put-backs so it is imperative that he continues to expand his overall offensive repertoire.
The Arizona State fans will like the toughness that the 6’9″ PF brings to the floor. His rebounding ability is something that ASU desperately needs. In time, we believe he can turn into a very good college defender. He shows the necessary traits to become one of the better front-court defenders in the PAC-12 conference.
White will need to put on weight/muscle in order to combat the rigors of a full Division 1 schedule. The best case scenario, in our opinion, would be to gain 10-15 pounds of muscle while maintaining his athleticism. His athletic ability for a PF is a huge positive in his game and he can’t afford to lose any of it.
While Romello White has areas in which to improve upon, we believe in time that he will be a nice college player for Bobby Hurley and Arizona State. His combination of strength and athletic ability to go along with good defensive ability should help him see the floor early as a freshmen. He is a work in progress. However, he has a nice amount of untapped talent that the Sun Devil’s coaching staff will need to get out of him.
BELOW ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF ROMELLO WHITE
What type of impact do you expect White to have as a freshmen?
