STAR RANKING: 5 STARS

AGE: 18 YEARS OLD
POSITION: SMALL FORWARD/POWER FORWARD
HIGH SCHOOL: IMG ACADEMY IN FLORIDA
CHOSE FLORIDA STATE: KENTUCKY, LOUISVILLE, AMONG MANY OTHERS
NBA COMPARISON: JONATHAN BENDER
PLAYER SUMMARY: Isaac has created waves in the news with him thinking about declaring for the NBA Draft. The reason is he started high school early, which means he has spent 5 years in high school. IMG Academy, where Isaac attends is a prep school, meaning he is allowed to play 5 years of high school basketball. The NBA declared this topic a mute point by saying he won’t be eligible for the 2016 NBA Draft. If anything changes in this case we will have it updated for your viewing.
Jonathan Isaac has great size for a small forward and has a huge 7-foot wingspan. This wingspan allows him to wreak havoc on the defensive end of the floor. The potential for him to be an outstanding defensive player is there. The 18-year old might have the nicest shooting form for a player of his size in high school.
Isaac possesses solid ball-handling and can create his own shot due to his size. He has an excellent mid-range jump-shot, which is rare for a young player. The mid-range game has become a lost art and this will be an extremely useful weapon for him.
When I watch Jonathan Isaac on film, I see a player who doesn’t always make the correct play. He can become careless with the ball as he has a tendency to try and do too much. He needs to improve his passing, which I believe is fixable and normal for a player of his size. While he possesses excellent height, it is imperative he puts on weight. If he doesn’t he might get pushed around on the college level and not reach his full potential.
The questions that I have regarding Johnathan Isaac are: “Can he put on the necessary weight?” and “What position will he be at the next level and beyond?” Isaac needs improve his passing ability and also cut down on turnovers. If he can do these things he might end up being a small forward. If he can eventually gain weight, he might be better suited to play the “stretch-4 PF”, where he can use his shooting ability and athleticism to combat the physicality that the PF’s at the college and NBA levels usually have.
Whatever position Jonathan Isaac plays when he heads to Florida State look for him to have an immediate impact for the Seminoles.
