BRUCE BROWN

#30 RANKED PLAYER IN COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2016)

STAR RANKING: 4 STARS

HEIGHT: 6’4″

WEIGHT: 190 POUNDS

AGE: 18 YEARS OLD

POSITION: SHOOTING GUARD

HIGH SCHOOL: VERMONT ACADEMY IN VERMONT

CHOSE MIAMI (FL) OVER: INDIANA, PURDUE, PROVIDENCE, XAVIER, AMONG OTHERS

NBA COMPARISON:  JIMMY BUTLER WHILE HE WAS AT MARQUETTE

PLAYER SUMMARY: Miami Head Coach Jim Larranaga has done a fabulous job since taking over the program a few years ago. He is bringing in a top 10 recruiting class to Miami for this upcoming season. We consider Larranaga one of the more underrated coaches in America and he has proven he has the ability to land high-end caliber talent. Dewan Huell is a 5-star recruit headed to Miami and fits in this category. Bruce Brown is a 4-star player and also fits in the same category.

The Vermont native is one of the best pure scorers in the class of 2016. When we broke down his game films, we saw a player who utilizes his great strength to overpower opposing defenders. He loves to attack the hoop and his quickness is a sight to behold. We really like his aggressiveness when driving to the basket. He is fearless and plays through contact extremely well due to his overall strength. He has improved his outside shooting range and shows off a nice mid-range jump-shot. He will need to continue to work on his overall shooting in order to keep opposing defenders honest.

The 6’4″ shooting guard has in our opinion, average ball-handling skills. At the high school level he is able to get away with having an average at-best handle. However, college is a completely different game and shooting guards need to be able to handle the ball. Fortunately for Brown, with hard-work, ball-handling can be improved. He needs to work on it all summer long for the benefit of his development as a player.

The 18-year old is a ball-hawk on defense. We consider Brown one of the top defensive players in the class of 2016 at any position. He is very aggressive and plays in your face man-to-man defense, which we are pretty sure will make Jim Larranaga a very happy coach as the Hurricanes like to play an uptempo style and physical defense.

Pound-for-pound, Bruce Brown is one of the tougher, more physical high school seniors in the country. We really like his ability to attack the basket, however as previously mentioned, his ball-handling needs to continue to develop in order for him to accomplish that. He has the ability to be a top-notch defensive player right from the start of his freshmen campaign.

Our overall opinion of Bruce Brown is that he can become a very good collegiate shooting guard. While slightly undersized (6’4″) for his position he makes up for it with his toughness and physicality. He is a pure scorer. During his time at Miami we look for Brown to become a very good 2-way player and become a very valuable asset to the Hurricanes.
