DARIUS BAZLEY 2018 HIGH SCHOOL SCOUTING REPORT
#9 RANKED PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2018)
STAR RANKING: 5 STARS

HIGH SCHOOL: PRINCETON HIGH SCHOOL IN OHIO

UPDATED (3-29-18): Bazley has announced that he will de-commit from Syracuse and enter the NBA G-League next year. He will be the first high school player to ever do this.
Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim is renowned for his zone defense. He landed a player on the recruiting trail who is a perfect fit for that zone. Darius Bazley might just be the highest rated and most talented player to commit to the Orange in the last decade. The 5-star recruit blew up over the summer while playing on the Nike EYBL circuit. He worked hard to get to where he is now as he wasn’t always so highly regarded.
What we like about the Ohio native is how versatile he is. He creates mis-matches as he can handle the ball, attack the basket with ferocity, and move like a point guard. We consider the prep star as one of the more versatile players in the entire class of 2018. We believe he will end up being a combo forward at Syracuse. After evaluating Bazley, he reminds us very much of former Syracuse great, Hakim Warrick. There overall games are similar. Like Warrick, Bazley is a strong and willing defender who can guard multiple positions. His versatility will allow Boeheim to use him in many different ways, which is a huge plus and makes game planning much tougher for the opposition.
The lefty forward has an advanced low-post game. He is shifty around the basket. Bazley will need to improve upon his mid-range and outside shooting. However, he displays very natural shooting mechanics and gets good rotation. Once he gets a consistent shot, he will be a possible nightmare to stop. Blessed with a solid 6’11” wing-span, the number 3 overall PF in the 2018 class is a terrific rebounder and shot-blocker. He displays the quickness needed to defend smaller players and the timing to swat shots away.
Bazley needs to hit the weight room. Weighing less than 200 pounds, gaining around 15 more will do him wonders. He has the body type where he shouldn’t lose any of quickness and athleticism as he gains weight. We would like to see him work on his off-hand (right hand) more. He uses his strong hand predominantly. Being able to score with both hands will make him just that much more of a threat.
Darius Bazley should eventually be able to score from all 3 levels on the court. His athletic ability and defensive prowess will instantly make him a starter at Syracuse from day 1. He will be a inside/outside scorer and a major defensive presence. His versatility on the court is going to make opposing coaches stay up at night. Look for Darius Bazley to have one of the bigger impacts among freshman in the ACC-Conference. Syracuse and him are a perfect match for each other.
