Cameron Reddish is part of an historic 2019 recruiting class for Duke. The number 2 ranked senior high school prospect will join R.J. Barrett (#1) and Zion Willamson (#3) next year at Duke. We just saw Reddish play in person this past week. He performed up to his lofty recruiting status. There isn’t much that the small forward can’t do on the basketball court.
The 6’7″ wing has excellent size for the small forward position. He sports a 7-1 wingspan and has a great basketball physique. While watching him live, we saw a player who was dominant in isolation situations. Reddish is very crafty and has an arsenal of moves that he can use to get his shot off. He repeated his shooting mechanics consistently. We were very impressed with his slashing ability. Reddish takes long strides and gets to the basket in only a few steps. We consider him to be one of the best finishers in the class of 2018. He is an above the rim type player. He nailed a few mid-range jumpers as well as one 3 pointer. While he scored over 30 points, he was very efficient. He rarely forced shots and seemed comfortable being a main facilitator.
We like the fact that the 5-star recruit is an unselfish and team player. It isn’t all about him. He is a willing passer. While a small forward, he handles the ball a lot for his high school team and shows above average ball-handling and play-making ability. He is as smooth a player as you will find in high school basketball. In the open court, he is a joy to watch.
After watching him play, we came away with the impression that Reddish can be a very good defender and rebounder. We believe with his size, length and overall athleticism that he can guard multiple positions (1-3). There have been whispers that he doesn’t always play 100% and doesn’t have a high motor. From our evaluation. he played extremely hard the entire game. We are pretty confident that Mike Krzyzewski will get Reddish to play hard consistently and reach his potential.
Cameron Reddish and Duke look to be a great fit together. While Reddish has the offensive versatility to play SG at the college level, we believe he will make for a dynamic small forward. He has the scoring instincts to put up points in a flash. There are no major flaws in his offensive game. He will be able to switch on opposing defenders at Duke. His unselfishness will be a big plus as he will be surrounded with other elite talent. It wouldn’t surprise us in the least if Cameron Reddish has a big-time freshman year at Duke. He has all the attributes needed to eventually become a very good NBA player. Possibly even a future All-Star. Reddish has that type of ability.
