2018 HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL PLAYER PROFILE OF BOL BOL
#4 RANKED PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2018)
STAR RANKING: 5 STARS
WEIGHT: 225 POUNDS
HIGH SCHOOL: FINDLAY PREP IN NEVADA
CHOSE OREGON OVER: KENTUCKY, KANSAS, ARIZONA, AMONG MANY OTHERS
Oregon head coach Dana Altman has done a marvelous job the last 5 years in guiding the Ducks program. Coming off a Final 4 appearance last season, Altman hit the recruiting trail hard this past summer. He ended up landing perhaps the top rated class for 2018. The headliner in the class is Bol Bol. The son of former NBA player, Manute, Bol Bol is a potential program changing type of player.
The 7’2″ center has physical characteristics that can’t be taught. He is blessed with a 7 foot 8 inch wingspan and a 9 foot 6 inch standing reach. What makes the 5-star prospect so intriguing is that he is a very good athlete and player as well. Bol Bol gets up and down the floor exceptionally well. No player in the class of 2018 has his overall skill, length, athletic ability, and size.
While scouting Bol, he shows a nice shooting stroke. His shooting stroke is fundamentally sound, although his release is a little low. He shows the ability to hit the college 3-point shot. He has the makings of a potential lethal hook shot, which would be all but unblock-able. Bol’s ball-handling ability for a player his size is excellent. Because of his athletic ability, we can see him developing into a future stretch 4 at the NBA level. The future Oregon Duck causes havoc on the defensive end at the high school level. He dominates the paint with his shot-blocking ability. Simply put, he is one of the top 3 rim protectors in the class of 2018.
There are certain areas where Bol Bol needs to improve in. At 225 pounds, he will need to gain weight and strength for the college game and beyond. While standing 7’2″, he fancies himself as more of a small forward than a post player. It will be very interesting to see how his game develops in the next few years. How will Dana Altman utilize him? Bol is not a physical player and might get pushed around in the PAC-12 if he doesn’t add the necessary strength and weight.
In our opinion, Bol Bol is a classic example of the word “potential”. We haven’t seen a player with the unique attributes and characteristics that he possesses. Bol has a ways to go in order to reach his immeasurable potential. We can see him growing into a Kristaps Porzingis type of player. He shows that kind of ability. We believe he made a great college choice. Oregon fits his style of play and Altman is an excellent teacher of the game.
Bol Bol will be a player that all NBA organizations will be watching closely next season. If he keeps improving at the rate he is, he will make Oregon a very dangerous team. He most likely will be a one and done college player. Bol is a high risk, high reward player at the NBA level, in our opinion.
