#29 RANKED PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2017)
STAR RANKING: 4 STARS
WEIGHT: 195 POUNDS
POSITION: SHOOTING GUARD
HIGH SCHOOL: HAMILTON HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY IN CANADA
CHOSE VIRGINIA TECH OVER: BAYLOR, CINCINNATI, MARYLAND, AMONG MANY MORE
PLAYER SUMMARY: Virginia Tech had a very solid 2016-17 season and landed one of the top shooting guards in the class of 2017. We expect Alexander-Walker to come in right away and start for the Hokies.
Alexander-Walker has excellent size for the SG position. What intrigues us is his potential to play both guard spots in college. If he is able to play some PG, his value to his team will be that much more. He has very good range that extends to the 3-point line. We like the fact that the top 30 recruit already has a consistent mid-range game. The mid-range game is becoming extinct in college, and Alexander-Walker already has it in his arsenal.
While his calling card is scoring, Alexander-Walker is much more than that. He has a good handle and is an excellent passer. While he will need to become less careless with the ball and improve his decision making, he shows the tools to become a high level college guard right away as a freshman.
The Canadian born guard will need to get stronger for the college game. However, we really like the fit of him and Virginia Tech. The Hokies don’t normally land players as highly recruited as Alexander-Walker. He possesses excellent long-term potential and if he can eventually turn into a PG, we look for Alexander-Walker to become a major and key piece for the Hokies next season and beyond. He has all the characteristics of a big-time player.
