PLAYER SUMMARY: The long wait for the number 2 player in the class of 2017 to commit is over. The winner for Mohamed Bamba’s services are the Texas Longhorns. Head Coach Shaka Smart needed Bamba after losing star freshman Jarrett Allen to the NBA Draft.

Bamba will come to Texas and be in the starting line-up immediately. He is one of the top 3 best defensive big-men in the country with a rapidly developing offensive game. While Jarrett Allen is further along offensively then Bamba, the Pennsylvania native is a better long term prospect, in our opinion,

Bamba is a 6’11” jumping jack. He has a 7’8″ wingspan and a 9’5″ standing reach. He completely dominates the blocks at the high school level. His shot-blocking ability is extraordinary for a teenager as he sports great timing when getting off the ground. He can be a game changer right away at Texas on the defensive end of the floor.

The big-man is also improving his offensive game quickly. While evaluating him, we see a nice soft touch. He can hit the 10-12 foot jump shot. He is very mobile for his size. Bamba finishes around the basket with authority. Monster dunks are usually the norm.

Bamba runs the floor very well, which is going to be important in Texas’ overall scheme. Smart likes to get up and down the floor. Due to his lateral quickness and mobility, we are pretty confident that the center could guard both front-court positions if needed.

He will need to learn a few low-post moves. This will be very important to his development before the season starts. If he can do this, he will become a more well-rounded and better player. Gaining weight should be a priority for him and the strength and conditioning staff. Bamba has the body to gain 15-20 pounds without losing any of his quickness.

Mohamed Bamba is a 5-star recruit for a reason. He is a phenomenal basketball player who is only just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. He has the potential to be an excellent college player. We believe he will be a one and done player at Texas and a likely high lottery pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. He has all the attributes that NBA scouts dream of when selecting a center.
