PLAYER SUMMARY: UCLA head coach Steve Alford is keeping up his momentum on the recruiting trail. After the major success he had with Lonzo Ball and T.J. Leaf, Alford landed one of the top small forward’s in the class of 2017.

Kris Wilkes is a very smooth looking player. After evaluating him, we came away very impressed with his ability and long-term potential. He is an excellent overall athlete. He is a sight to see in transition where his athletic prowess is on full display. On the offensive end of the floor, he displays a nice touch as well as a solid mid-range game. His pull-up mid-range jumper is going to be a very effective weapon for him once he gets to college. He has improved his shooting mechanics and his consistency. Wilkes has range out to the 3-point line, however this is a part of his game that will need improvement.

The 6’7″ future Bruin shows a very nice face-up game, in which he can take his defender off the dribble or shoot over them. He has a 6’10” wingspan. In our opinion, Wilkes has the ability to play both forward spots. He can possibly become a small ball “stretch-4”, where he can use his athletic ability and improved shooting to become a mis-match for opposing defenders.

The 5-star recruit impressed us with his unselfishness. He is an above-average ball-handler and passer. Wilkes has the ability to become a premier defender, which is one of the main reasons we are very high on him. We put a lot of stock into players who play both ends of the court. Due to his length, size, and lateral quickness, he can potentially be a major defensive presence in time. This will only enhance his value to UCLA and make him more of a complete player.

Wilkes needs to get stronger for the college game. He will need to get on a strength and conditioning program. Once his frame fills out, he will have a greater chance of fulfilling his potential.

We believe Wilkes is a great fit for UCLA. His style of play will fit in perfectly with the Bruins fast paced style of play. He will thrive in transition, as UCLA is one of the top scoring teams in the nation this year. He will provide a strong defensive presence on the wing. As he keeps developing his all-around offensive game, he is going to be a major contributor for UCLA.

With Ball and Leaf expected to defect to the NBA, Wilkes will be counted on to produce as a freshmen. With his talent, he should be an immediate starter and one of the better freshmen in the PAC-12 Conference in 2017-18.

BELOW ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF KRIS WILKES

What type of impact do you expect Wilkes to have as a freshmen?
