#9 RANKED PLAYER IN THE COUNTRY (CLASS OF 2017)
STAR RANKING: 5 STARS
WEIGHT: 205 POUNDS
POSITION: SMALL FORWARD
HIGH SCHOOL: TAMPA CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN FLORIDA
COMMITTED TO KENTUCKY: DUKE, NORTH CAROLINA, MISSOURI, FLORIDA STATE
PLAYER SUMMARY: The long and anticipated commitment of Kevin Knox is over. The winner for his services are the Kentucky Wildcats. The Wildcats already had the number 1 rated class for 2017. By adding Knox, John Calipari and Big Blue Nation solidify that ranking.
The commitment of Knox was considered a surprise since UK already had the number 1 class and a few players who are similar to Knox. However, we believe he is the best player in UK’s class.
Knox can play both forward positions, however, we believe he will be the starting small forward next season. He is a sight to see in an open floor setting, which is the way Kentucky likes to play. He has very good size and a 6’11” inch wing-span. He displays solid shooting mechanics and has range out to the 3-point line. This is why we believe he plays small forward at Kentucky as they already have a few other big-men coming in next year. His mid-range game is already college ready and will be a deadly weapon for him.
The 5-star recruit is exciting and very tough to stop while attacking the rim. He shows excellent body control and finishes with highlight reel dunks. Knox is a good and willing passer and an excellent rebounder. At the high school level, he was sometimes a 1 man fast-break by grabbing a rebound and pushing the ball up the court.
The Florida native is and should be a mis-match problem in college. Due to his size, he can shoot over small forwards and will be too quick for power forwards. His versatility is going to only help him and make him a more dangerous player.
The knocks on him are that he needs to develop his ball-handling skills and strength. No coaching staff in college basketball will get a player stronger than Kentucky’s, whose strength and conditioning staff is top-notch. His ball-handling is something that he can improve upon with practice. We aren’t that worried about it.
Kevin Knox is a top 10 player in the class of 2017 for a reason. He has dominated high school basketball and has the size, athleticism, and overall skill-set to do the same in college. John Calipari is a master at getting his players ready for the NBA. We believe he will get Knox their sooner rather than later. He has a very good chance of being the next one and done player at Kentucky. His potential is really high and Kentucky fans will love his game.
