PLAYER SUMMARY: North Carolina is having a great 2016-17 season and are one of the favorites to win the National Championship. Head Coach Roy Williams went on the recruiting trail and got his point guard of the future and whose uncle was former UNC great Raymond Felton.

Jalek Felton is one of the better overall basketball players that we have profiled for the class of 2017. He has excellent size for the point guard position. He also shows the ability to play both guard spots, which will only enhance his value to the Tarheels. While evaluating the 5-star recruit’s game, we came away very impressed with his court vision and passing ability. He see the entire court exceptionally well, and always looks to be one step ahead of the competition.

Like most of the elite high school guards, Felton is a terror in the transition game, in which he displays his excellent quickness and speed. We believe that he will be an excellent fit at North Carolina, as UNC employs an uptempo style of play.

The South Carolina native has the unique ability to get into the lane virtually anytime he wants at the high school level. Due to his size for a PG, he is very good at attacking the rim and creating for himself and teammates. He is an unselfish player as that is a key attribute for a PG. At UNC, he will be playing with players who are on the same talent level as him, so he will need to be unselfish.

However, Felton is also a dynamic scorer as well, which is why he might see some time at the shooting guard position in college. Besides being excellent while attacking the rim, he has a nice mid-range game. His range extends to the 3-point line as he has become an above average 3-point shooter. Going forward, he will need to work on becoming more consistent with his jump-shot, however, he displays solid shooting mechanics. In our opinion, he will become a very good shooter in time, which will only make his driving ability more dangerous.

Felton will need to improve his decision making. While he is all the tools to become a premier college PG, he can become careless with the ball. Is this because the game comes so easy for him at the high school level? Maybe. He does try to do too much when the ball is in his hands at times. However, this can be cleaned up as he heads off to college and learns the nuances of the college game.

We are very high on Jalek Felton. We firmly believe that he can be a full time point guard for North Carolina. There will be some growing pains as he starts to play against top-notch competition. However, he has natural gifts that can’t be taught. He also displays skills that are needed to become a premier college player. Roy Williams is a Hall of Fame coach for a reason. He gets the most out of his players, which leads to winning. If he gets the most out of Jalek Felton, he will have one of the best freshmen in the country next year.
