(AFTERNOON SESSION)

THE FOLLOWING PLAYERS WERE PHENOMENAL IN THEIR GAMES TODAY AND WE AWARD THEM WITH THE GAMEBALLS FOR THE AFTERNOON SESSION OF THURSDAYS OPENING ROUND OF THE NCAA TOURNAMENT.

  1. YALE: MAKAI MASON (GUARD) 31pts, 6reb, 4ast.

Mason was simply outstanding as the Yale Bulldogs shocked Big-12 power Baylor 79-75. The Sophomore went 11-11 from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs proved just how good a team they are and Mason proved to america that he is a big-time player. Mason gets another chance on the big stage on Saturday against the Duke Blue Devils

2. IOWA STATE: GEORGES NIANG (FORWARD) 28pts, 6reb, 3ast, 1blk, 2stl

The All-Big 12 performer stood out for the Cyclones as they withstood a tough challenge from Iona, winning 94-81. This is the type of outing Iowa State will need from Niang as the talented but erratic Cyclones move on to the next round. Iowa State will go as far as the Senior Forward will take them.

3. DUKE: MARSHALL PLUMLEE (CENTER) 23pts, 8reb, 3blk

It is probably safe to say that the Blue Devils would be heading home if it wasn’t for the surprising and wonderful play of the Senior Center. He showed a tenacity on the court that was needed as Duke held off a very good UNC Wilmington team, 93-85. If Duke intends to stay in the tournament for a long period of time they will need Plumlee to continue this kind of play. He saved the Blue Devils season. Duke moves on to play the Yale Bulldogs on Saturday.
