WEIGHT: 185 POUNDS
POSITION: SHOOTING GUARD
PROJECTED DRAFT POSITION: 2ND ROUND PICK
PLAYER SUMMARY: Oregon had a fantastic season and made the Final 4. While Dillon Brooks was the team’s go to player and top player, the Ducks had a wealth of talent. One of the other top players was shooting guard Tyler Dorsey. Dorsey is leaving Oregon after his sophomore season and entering the 2017 NBA Draft. Last season, he averaged 14.6pts, 3.5reb, and 1.7ast per game.
We really enjoy watching Dorsey play. He does a lot of little things that don’t get noticed in the box-score. He is a very good athlete with a real high motor. The 6’4″ guard is excellent when attacking the rim and is a very good finisher. His shooting ability stands out to us. He is a clutch shot maker. He can score off the dribble as he has a good handle. He has 3-point range and a solid mid-range game as well. Dorsey is a treat to watch in the open court, which usually ends with a nice pass or thunderous dunk
A question we have is can he play point guard. If he can show to scouts that he can, he will rise in the draft. Being as versatile as possible is important and can help a player stick with an NBA team. He will need to improve upon his playmaking and the decisions he makes while on the floor.
Dorsey plays aggressive defense when he is locked in. We believe he can guard both back-court spots at the next level, which will be key for him. He is a good rebounder for his size. The main issue with Dorsey is what position does he ultimately play. If he can handle playing PG, it will help him out tremendously in the eyes of scouts. If he can’t, he will be considered a “tweener”, as he doesn’t have the ideal height for a SG.
In our opinion, Tyler Dorsey is just a very good basketball player, regardless of position. He has skills that translate into the NBA, preferably his shooting. Players who can put the ball in the basket will always get an opportunity. How high he gets selected will be what NBA teams think of him as an eventually PG. It only takes 1 team to believe he can play the position. At worst, he becomes a nice back-up in a few years.
BELOW ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF TYLER DORSEY
