PLAYER SUMMARY: Another intriguing international prospect in this year’s draft is currently playing professionally in France. Mathias Lessort possesses a few skills that translate into the NBA game.
Lessort plays in one of the toughest professional leagues in France, so the youngster is gaining valuable experience that can’t be taught. The power forward is very athletic and has the versatility to play both forward spots at the next level, in time.
The 6’9″ forward is an excellent rebounder, which is a skill that usually translates to the next level. He shows very good timing when blocking shots. He plays with great energy and runs the floor very well for his size. Right now, we believe his defense is ahead of his offensive game. The fact that he can guard multiple positions will only help him in the minds of NBA organizations.
The 230-pounder shows potential on the offensive end. We like how he finishes with authority. He shows the makings of a few low-post moves, which will need to be refined. He can make plays on his own, however, he will need to improve his ball-handling ability if he is ever going to play SF in the NBA. He has a nice touch from around 12 feet and in.
Mathias Lessort is a prospect who would be a good value pick in the 2nd round. His ability to defend multiple positions and do it well is very valuable in today’s NBA. If he can improve his overall offensive skill-set, he has a chance to be a solid rotational player in the NBA in a few years. Whoever drafts him might keep him in France for another year or 2 so he can keep improving without the pressure of playing in the NBA. He is a player to keep an eye on.
