2017 NBA DRAFT PROSPECTS

JOSH JACKSON

COLLEGE: KANSAS

HEIGHT:  6’7″

WEIGHT: 205 POUNDS

POSITION: SMALL FORWARD

CLASS: FRESHMEN

PROJECTED DRAFT POSITION:    TOP 7 PICK

PLAYER SUMMARY: Bill Self has done an incredible job on the recruiting trail in the last few years. His most decorated recruit from the class of 2016 is living up to his lofty reputation and is playing very well up to the writing of this profile.

Josh Jackson was the #1 recruit by the majority of recruiting services last year. He started the the season off a little slow, however, has really come on as of late. The freshmen has prototypical height for an NBA small forward as he stands 6’7′”. He sports the athleticism that is needed to compete at the NBA level as he is one of the best overall athletes in college basketball. He thrives in an open court setting, which is the way Kansas likes to play.

His leaping ability is second to none among college players, which gives us a good indication of the explosiveness that he has. One of the few knocks on him was his overall shooting ability. While he has a ways to go to becoming an overall reliable shooter, he has improved since landing in Lawrence. Jackson has shown a solid-mid range game and is improving his 3-point shot. He can get his shot off against anybody due to the elevation he gets on his jumper. Once his shooting improves to the point where it becomes a reliable weapon, his game will go to another level. We believe he might need to tweak his shooting mechanics as it is a little unorthodox. He is more of a pure scorer than a shooter.

He is very hard to guard one on one. He thrives as a slasher while attacking the basket. He is very good at finishing around the rim. Even though he will need to gain weight/strength, he has shown us the ability to finish through contact. Once he gains more weight/strength, we firmly believe that he will be a very good player around the basket at the NBA level.

While evaluating Jackson, we believe he needs to improve his ball-handling. His handle can get loose at times and he needs to tighten it up. He can be careless with the ball at times as he tries to do too much on the court. We would like to see him make the simple play instead of the tough and exciting play. He shows the potential to become a very solid play-maker for others as he is an unselfish and team player.

What we really are excited about in his game is his defense. Jackson shows glimpses of being a lock-down defender. Personally, we love players who can play both ends of the court and Jackson should be able to do this in time.with his athleticism and lateral quickness, he has a very good chance of being an outstanding NBA defensive player, which only enhances his value to an NBA organization.

While Josh Jackson needs to improve his shooting and a few other aspects in his game, it is easy to see why he is held in high regards. Due to the outstanding play of other freshmen this season, Jackson has been overlooked a little bit. However, he is held in high regards within NBA circles. What we see in Jackson is a player who in a few years can become an outstanding NBA player. He is a natural born scorer and once he improves his jump-shot, will become a very tough player to guard. We love his defensive potential. Jackson might be the best 2 way player in the 2017 NBA Draft. It is likely going to take an NBA team picking among the top 7 to select Josh Jackson. Possibly even higher than that.
