2017 NBA DRAFT PROSPECTS

DILLON BROOKS

COLLEGE: OREGON

HEIGHT: 6’6″

WEIGHT: 220 POUNDS

POSITION: SMALL FORWARD

CLASS: JUNIOR

PROJECTED DRAFT POSITION:      LATE FIRST/EARLY SECOND ROUND

PLAYER SUMMARY: Dana Altman led Oregon to the Final 4 this past season. A big reason for that and the teams success was because of Dillon Brooks. The junior was named PAC-12 Conference Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

We have watched Brooks over the past 2 seasons a lot. The junior small forward is has attributes that can’t be taught. He plays his best in the big games. He plays tremendously hard. He is simply, a winning player. He also has the tools necessary to play in the NBA.

While he isn’t an elite athlete, he gets the job done. He doesn’t do one thing great on the court, however, he does almost everything average to above average. He is a very well rounded player. Brooks has an innate ability to score. He is very shifty and crafty. He can score in multiple ways. He is great at moving without the ball. His mid-range game is very good. He has excelled at the college level when attacking the basket and in transition. He is the type of player that you want taking the last shot of a game. He is not afraid of pressure.

As we mentioned previously, Brooks does mostly everything well. He is unselfish as a passer, which we believe is an underrated part of his game. He rebounds the ball well. While he has dominated college basketball the past few seasons, NBA scouts have questions about him.

Brooks outside shooting is inconsistent. Scouts worry that his lack of elite athletic ability will hinder him at the next level where small forward’s are some of the best athletes in the world. Will he be able to defend at the next level? He can try to do too much, which leads to careless decisions and turnovers. He can be a streaky shooter, however, it has worked out very well for him thus far in his college career. Don’t be surprised if he ends up playing as a PF in a small-ball type of system.

All of the NBA scouts questions on Dillon Brooks are justifiable. However, in our opinion, we have seen enough of him to believe that he can be a solid NBA player. There are a lot of positives in his game. We are a fan of Brooks and his overall game. While he does have deficiencies, he has the drive and will to succeed.

In a very talented 2017 NBA Draft, Brooks has a shot at being drafted late in the first round or early into the 2nd round. We would not be surprised at all if he passes expectations. He has the talent to turn himself into a very good role player who can help out a team in multiple ways. He can have a lengthy NBA career in this role.

BELOW ARE HIGHLIGHTS OF DILLON BROOKS
