KEYS TO VICTORY:

These 2 teams played in November at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke came away with an 80-61 victory. It was a well-balanced effort from Duke with 3 players scoring 14 points or more. However, this is now the NCAA tournament and the pressure intensifies. All of the pressure is on Duke. They are the team who every year is expected to make a deep run. Yale has already pulled off a huge upset in their first round game against Baylor and are playing with house money.

Yale is spear-headed by Ivy League Player of the Year, Justin Sears. The Senior PF had 18 points and 4 rebounds against Baylor. The big surprise for the Bulldogs was the outstanding play of G Makai Mason. The Sophomore exploded for 31 points and went 11-11 at the free-throw line. It is perhaps the best individual performance from the first 2 days of the NCAA tournament. It is adamant that these 2 players continue their stellar play. If Yale is going to upset the Blue Devils, Sears must win the front-court battle against Marshall Plumlee and the rest of Duke’s front-line.

The Ivy League champions must figure out a way to contain 1 of the 2 main Duke stars. Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram are capable of going off for 25+ points each. It is imperative that Yale figures out a way to limit one of these 2. Ingram has really shown off his talent the last month of the year and is in contention for being selected as the number 1 overall pick in this year’s NBA Draft. He is that talented. We feel Yale has the advantage at the PG position as Duke’s PG play has been shaky and Makai Mason is coming off the best game of his career on the biggest stage college basketball has to offer.

THE PICK:

This game is must-see T.V. The Ivy League champions are for real and this is one of the weaker teams Duke Head Coach Mike Krzyzewski has had in a while. We feel the game will come down to whether the Bulldogs can limit either Allen or Ingram to sub-par games. If Yale can do this they have a legitimate shot to pull off another shocker and head to the Sweet 16.

However, when all is said and done the talent of Brandon Ingram will be the deciding factor. The freshmen will not be scared of the big stage and will lead the Blue Devils to victory in a hard fought, exciting college basketball game.
