PLAYER SUMMARY: Indiana Head Coach Tom Crean did a very nice job coaching the Hoosiers this past season. However, Crean received bad news when his starting small forward declared for the 2016 NBA Draft. Troy Williams had one year of eligibility remaining, however he is heading off to the NBA. In our opinion, we believe the 21-year old should have returned to Indiana where he would have been their best player next season.

Troy Williams is arguably one of the top 3-5 athletes in this years draft. When evaluating and analyzing his game, he shows amazing potential on the defensive end of the court. In our opinion, he is perhaps the best overall defender of any player who will be in the draft, regardless of position. He is an elite defender as this will be his calling card should he make an NBA roster.

Williams’ has an inconsistent jump-shot. Right now we would consider it below-average. It is imperative now that he has entered the draft to work extremely hard improving his shot from all areas on the court. We see inconsistent shooting mechanics, which might be a cause for his poor shooting. If he doesn’t improve his shooting opposing defenders will play off him and his ability to drive. This scenario would hurt him and his team. He must develop a jump-shot that keeps his defender honest.

The 6’7″, 220-pounder is a solid rebounder and ball-handler. Troy Williams is an interesting prospect. He has the body and defensive ability that will translate to the NBA. Our concern as well as NBA front offices is his shooting. If Troy Williams can develop even an average jump-shot he will make an NBA roster and see minutes because of his defensive ability. If he doesn’t we could see a scenario where he plays in the D-League for a few seasons to hone his skills and then get signed by an NBA team. Hopefully for Troy Williams sake his skills catches up with his elite athleticism.
