NBA DRAFT COMPARISON: GORDON HAYWARD/ LESS ATHLETIC VERSION

PLAYER SUMMARY: Hernangomez is another unknown international player who the casual fan does not know much about. He is currently playing overseas in Spain. The 20 year old was part of Spain’s Under 18 and Under 20 national teams so he has experience playing against the world’s top competition in his age group.

The 6’9″ Power Forward is more of a combo forward who has really nice form on his jump shot. He shows range out to the 3-point line. Hernangomez has the ability to put up points in bunches. We believe if he was playing in america at a Division 1 college he would be a possible All-American. He is very talented.

When watching game footage, he shows the ability to be an excellent pick n roll player, with the ability to shoot as well as his ability to put the ball on the floor and drive to the basket. He has a non-stop motor, which will make his future NBA employer very happy. He hustles after loose balls and gives his all. His shooting ability at his size and position is his best attribute right now at this stage in his development.

Hernangomez will need to get tougher. He can get away with his lack of strength playing overseas, however when he makes the leap to the NBA he will need to get on a weight training program. He has a lack of low post moves as his scoring mostly comes from jumpers and dunks. He will need to develop at least 1 low-post move to keep defenses honest. He also needs to improve his lateral quickness. We aren’t sure if he has the overall athletic ability to cover the top Power Forwards in the NBA.

Juan Hernangomez is a player who enticed us when watching his game footage. His shooting is by far his best attribute and is even more impressive considering he is 6’9″. He has a chance to be a late first round pick. Our belief for the benefit of Hernangomez’s career would be to get drafted but stay in Europe for another year or 2 so when he is 22 years old he can come in and play in an NBA team’s rotation. He is a very intriguing prospect.
