2016 NBA DRAFT PROSPECTS (JAKOB POELTL)

JAKOB POELTL

COLLEGE: UNIVERSITY OF UTAH

HEIGHT: 7’1″

WEIGHT: 240 POUNDS

AGE: 20 years old

POSITION: CENTER

CLASS: SOPHOMORE

2015-2016 STATISTICS: 17PTS, 9.4REB, 1.8AST

PROJECTED DRAFT POSITION: TOP 10 PICK

NBA DRAFT COMPARISON: ANDREW BOGUT

PLAYER SUMMARY: Poeltl is the best Center in college basketball. He runs the court like a much smaller player and is very athletic despite his legit 7’1″ status. By way of Austria, the big man has a nice and soft touch with both hands. He looks to be very coordinated, which can be a problem with such big men. The sophomore is agile and enjoys battling down underneath the basket. He also shows very nice passing ability for a Center.

He is only 240 pounds so he will need to gain weight, however at only 20 years old the room and time to add weight is certainly there. While he has a nice touch he needs to significantly improve his low-post game. He can get away with it in college but for true success in the NBA it needs to become reliable and not a liability.

Poeltl has rapidly improved his overall game since the beginning of his freshmen year at Utah. I believe he is better then Alex Len and Myers Leonard, 2 recent top 10 picks in recent NBA drafts. The best NBA comparison to Poeltl is coincidentally another former Austrian and Utah player, Andrew Bogut. Bogut was the 1st overall pick in the 2005 NBA Draft who has had a nice career. There are a lot of similarities in both players game. If Jacob Poeltl can keep rapidly improving he has a chance in time to match Bogut’s game.
