NBA DRAFT COMPARISON: KEVIN LOVE IS HIS CEILING

PLAYER SUMMARY: Ellenson has really impressed this season and is skyrocketing up the draft boards to where some analysts have him as a potential top 5-10 pick in the upcoming 2016 NBA Draft. The Wisconsin native was the number 11th ranked prospect in the 2015 class according to rivals.com. He has certainly played up to his ranking and perhaps above it.

Ellenson is a 6’10” PF with a really nice shooting stroke with excellent ball-handling ability for a player of his size. I have watched Marquette play a lot this season and he has improved his play each time. He can easily knock down 15-17 foot jump-shots with the potential in time to be a 3-point threat. With his excellent ball-handling ability he can take the opposing player off the dribble and drive to the hoop. He is also an exceptional passer, even drawing comparisons to NBA All-Star Kevin Love who is known as the NBA’s best outlet passer. He also has a lethal turnaround jump-shot that is all but unblockable.

While a solid defender and rebounder, Ellenson can be to aggressive at times, which can lead to occasional foul trouble. Besides his turnaround jump-shot, Ellenson doesn’t have much more of an offensive move-set. He will need to work on his low-post game once he gets to the NBA. NBA teams and players will know strengths and weaknesses, so it is imperative that Ellenson improve his overall low-post game.

In my opinion, Ellenson is one of the biggest surprises that I have seen this year in college basketball. He is a very talented player who is only going to improve. He is a 6’10” PF with the potential to be a very good “stretch-4″. He is only scratching the surface of his abilities. I am in tune with the other analysts who say he is a possible top-10 pick. In a weak draft year, there are only a handful of players that offer more potential then the 6’10”, 240 pound Ellenson. There is a very good chance he hears his name called within the first top 10 picks in the 2016 NBA Draft.
