PLAYER SUMMARY: When watching Florida State and Dwayne Bacon play, the first thing that comes to my mind is “high-flyer”. The 2015 McDonald’s All-American is an extraordinary athlete and it stands out when watching him play. Bacon teams with Malik Beasley to form a nice 1-2 freshmen punch for the Seminoles.
Bacon is an explosive athlete, who is slowly developing an all-around game. He has had 9 games of 20+ points so far on the season, showing he has the ability to score. He has proven he can make big shots, which includes the game-winner against rival Florida on Dec. 29, 2015. Bacon is a very effective slasher, in which he utilizes his size and strength. He has the necessary size for his position for the NBA and handles the ball very well for a 6’7″ player.
Bacon seems to be a player who needs the ball in his hands to be at his most effective. I believe he has to become better when the ball isn’t in his hands. He often stands around and waits for the ball without doing the necessary moving without the ball that is needed. He will need to improve his 3-point shot in order for defenders to lay off him, as he he looking to drive and slash the majority of the time.
Dwayne Bacon has a lot of natural talent. He should be a 2016 NBA First-Round Draft selection. How high he goes will depend on if he can keep developing his all-around game to the level it needs to be to perform on a consistent basis at the NBA level. He is a nice NBA prospect who in time should be a solid NBA rotational player.
UPDATE (4-15-16): Dwayne Bacon will not enter the 2016 NBA Draft and will return to FSU.
