PLAYER SUMMARY: The 23 year old Lee had a long road before winding up on Louisville’s campus. He started his career at Drexel University. He was a star at Drexel , earning first team All-CAA honors in 2015. At the end of last season he transferred to Louisville for one season and the chance to play major college basketball. Lee was considered by many to be the top college transfer entering this season. It turned out to be a fantastic decision to transfer for Lee and the Louisville Cardinals.

Damion Lee possesses nice size (6’6″) for the shooting guard position. Lee is a very good outside shooter, a skill that usually translates to the NBA and which is always in high demand. In 124 college games he has made 255 3-point shots. He is an excellent foul-shooter, hovering around 85% for his career. He is a player that moves well without the ball, and has a nice little pull-up jumper. He is Head Coach Rick Pitino’s go to guy for the Cardinals, who weren’t eligible for this years NCAA tournament due to a self-imposed postseason ban.

His ball-handling must improve. It is not up to NBA SG standards at this point in time. When watching Lee on television and on tape, he almost exclusively dribbles to his left. This is why his his ball-handling improvements must be a high priority for him in the months leading up to the NBA Draft. He isn’t an elite athlete and must get physically stronger and improve his foot speed. He will be going up against the best athletes in the NBA at his position and to get playing time he needs to achieve these goals.

We have seen Damion Lee numerous times this season as the Cardinals are on television a lot. While Lee isn’t flashy he has one major skill that translates into the NBA. The ability to shoot the basketball. The question we have about Lee is “Is he a one trick pony?” Does he have any other NBA skills and attributes that will make him stick on an NBA roster?, and if he does, is he anything more than a player who gets minutes in garbage time?

Players who can shoot from long range have a role in the NBA. In Damion Lee’s case he will need to show more than just being able to shoot during his individual workouts to NBA scouts in the next few months before the June NBA Draft. These next few months are crucial for Lee if he is going to make an NBA roster.
